Our Commitment
To the Environment
As a member of the Pacific Coast Building Products family of companies, it’s a matter of pride and genuine concern that what is done with the earth, water and air is beneficial to mankind. While regulations are becoming more stringent, we remain ahead of the curve with proactive programs that are part of being a good corporate citizen.
Our manufactured products are made from natural materials such as clay, gypsum, shale, rhyolitic aggregate, and lumber. During manufacturing, we use sophisticated technology to recover dust, scrap, and damaged products, returning them to the manufacturing process. This minimizes landfill and maximizes use of the natural resources. We also recycle our process water to reduce consumption and ensure that we are not polluting nearby streams and rivers. The company and each of its employees are committed to protecting wildlife that seek haven on company property. Examples abound to include Mule Deer at Interstate Brick, migrating birds at Gladding, McBean, wild horses at a Basalite mining site, and desert creatures at PABCO Gypsum Las Vegas. Protecting endangered species extends to such plant life as the endangered Golden Bear Poppies at PABCO Gypsum Las Vegas.
Watchfulness is carried out in every division by a corporate environmental department that goes looking for potential trouble and correcting it before it becomes necessary. The environmental department is on call 24 hours a day in case of emergency and conducts comprehensive hazardous material training of employees. Such diligence is part of the commitment to our surrounding communities.
To Employee Safety
Pacific Coast Building Products dedicates significant resources to protecting the lives and well-being of employees, including hosting an annual safety conference attended by representatives from every division and site. The largest company event of the year, meeting attendees honor the divisions with the best safety records for the year and learn about new techniques and products that will further protect lives. In addition, each division employs a safety manager whose responsibility is to inspect for and correct areas of concern and provide training and information. This unwavering focus has helped Pacific Coast earn an exceptional reputation for safety.
“Employee safety is number one. It’s more important than the numbers or anything else-any supervisor will tell you that.”
